The Laurel County, Kentucky, community is mourning the tragic loss of Joshua Burkhart, a 23-year-old resident of McKee, who died Thursday morning in a head-on motorcycle collision on Industrial Boulevard west of London.
According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 7:24 a.m. on July 2, 2026. Sheriff John Root said multiple crash reconstruction specialists responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into the fatal collision.
Preliminary findings indicate that Burkhart was traveling northbound on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when, for reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle crossed the center line into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Chrysler 300.
Authorities identified the driver of the Chrysler as Gregory Baker, 50, of Eubank, Kentucky. Officials said Baker was not injured in the crash.
Emergency responders from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, the London-Laurel Rescue Squad, Swiss Colony Fire and Rescue, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, and the Laurel County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. Despite their efforts, Burkhart sustained catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators continue to examine what caused the motorcycle to enter the opposing lane of travel. The crash remains under active investigation, and officials have said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Joshua Burkhart’s sudden passing has left his family, friends, and the McKee community grieving the loss of a young man whose life ended far too soon. He is remembered with love by those who knew him, and heartfelt condolences are extended to all mourning his passing.
May he rest in peace.
