The law enforcement community across New Hampshire is mourning the sudden passing of Sgt. Brian J. Ross, a respected member of the New Hampshire State Police who dedicated 19 years to serving the state.
The announcement was made by Mark B. Hall, who expressed heartfelt condolences to Sgt. Ross’s family, friends, and fellow troopers. He remembered Ross as a dedicated public servant who served with honor, integrity, and professionalism throughout his distinguished career.
Sgt. Ross began his career as a patrol trooper assigned to Troop A before taking on several specialized roles within the department. During his tenure, he served with the Major Crime Unit, the Special Events Response Team, and the Motorcycle Unit, earning the respect of colleagues for his skill, commitment, and leadership.
Most recently, Sgt. Ross served as commander of the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit, where he oversaw investigations into serious traffic collisions and provided expert leadership in accident reconstruction. Fellow officers described him as an experienced investigator, dependable leader, and mentor whose work made a lasting impact on the department and public safety across the state.
Outside of his career in law enforcement, Sgt. Ross was remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father of three, and an active youth coach. Friends and colleagues have shared tributes celebrating not only his professional accomplishments but also his dedication to his family and his willingness to serve others both on and off duty.
The New Hampshire Troopers Association has established a memorial fund to assist Sgt. Ross’s family during this difficult time. Law enforcement officials have asked the public to keep his wife, children, and loved ones in their thoughts and to respect their privacy as they mourn this tremendous loss.
At the time of the announcement, officials had not publicly disclosed the cause of Sgt. Ross’s sudden death.
