Conway Shooting / Richland County Deputy Shootout: 21-Year-Old Suspect Surrenders on Attempted Murder Charges

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A 21-year-old man accused of participating in a June 4 shootout with deputies has surrendered to authorities, marking another significant development in an ongoing investigation by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the sheriff’s department, Tyjae Miller, 21, turned himself in Thursday morning at the agency’s headquarters. He has been charged with:

  • Three counts of attempted murder
  • Possession of a weapon during a violent crime
  • Aggravated breach of peace

Investigators allege Miller was one of five suspected shooters involved in the exchange of gunfire with three deputies in the Summit neighborhood. Authorities have identified him as the fifth alleged member of what investigators have referred to as “Team A.”

Miller’s surrender follows the recent arrest of another suspect, Aric Hicks, who was charged in connection with an earlier shooting on Sagamore Road. Investigators believe that incident preceded and may be connected to the later shootout involving deputies.

The sheriff’s department said the investigation remains active as detectives continue to identify everyone involved and reconstruct the sequence of events surrounding the June 4 shooting. Authorities have not announced any additional arrests but indicated that further charges remain possible as the investigation progresses.

No further details about court appearances or additional suspects have been released. Officials continue to ask anyone with information related to the case to contact the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
