The New Rochelle community is mourning the loss of Joan A. Mosca, a 92-year-old resident who died in a tragic single-vehicle crash on Interstate 684 in Westchester County, New York. Authorities said Mosca was found inside her overturned vehicle late Tuesday evening after she had been reported missing earlier that day.
According to the New York State Police, the investigation began around 7:30 p.m. on June 30, 2026, when family members reported Mosca missing after she failed to reach her intended destination. She was last seen at approximately 4:00 p.m. leaving the park-and-ride lot near Exit 4 on Interstate 684 in Mount Kisco, driving a gray Toyota Camry southbound.
Following a search by state troopers, Mosca’s vehicle was discovered at approximately 10:30 p.m. about 30 feet off the right shoulder of Interstate 684 near mile marker 0.9. The vehicle had left the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned down an embankment. Emergency responders found Mosca inside the car and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that she was traveling southbound when her vehicle drifted off the highway for reasons that remain unknown. Investigators have found no indication that another vehicle was involved. The cause of the crash remains under investigation as authorities review roadway conditions, vehicle data, and any potential medical factors that may have contributed to the incident.
Harrison EMS and the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office assisted at the scene as investigators gathered evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
The news has saddened residents of New Rochelle, where family, friends, and neighbors are remembering Mosca and extending condolences to her loved ones.
